suspension problem

I have also posted this issue in W220 forum, but I'm also posting it here hoping I might get more help over here.

I have a 00 S500. Today I took it to an indep mech who raised up the car to look for something underneath. In doing so, I think something happened to the airmatic shocks which caused the car to go really down and now it doesn't raise up.

After a lot of search on this forum, I found someone saying that if I leave the key in the ignition while raising the car, it messes up the airmatic suspension.

I wanted to know what kind of damage it may have done and what should I do now. It seems like my only option is to take it to teh dealer and get it diagnosed. But I'm hoping to find some info here before I do this, so I'm more informed and prepared to make a good decision.

Thanks.

will it not go back up again at all? even with engine running etc? you will have to ake it to a dealer and get them to re-calibrate the suspension with the Star machine, not as bad as it sounds. unless your indep mechanic has broken something?

never had any experiance with mercedes air ride but i know if you lift any for products without turning the air ride off it can pop the bags. whenever someone forgets to turn them off i tell them to get it on the ground and let it run until the car raises up again and dont move it till then

I didn't know there was an option to turn it off. I thought it stays on all the time when the car is running.

actually it sounds like your strut tower seals are leaking and after they lifted it off the ground the air escaped out. You can usually turn the car on and let it run for awhile then hit the airmatic button and it will slowly raise - if it doesnt do it within a couple of minutes cycle the key and try again. Hopefully its just the seals and not the pump as well.
