255/40/17 Tire Rubbing on 2002 C32 - Please Help!

Just replaced my rear tires with 255/40/17 Continentals. On bumps I hear the telltale squeak of my tire rubbing the left wheel well. The fender gap on the left side is almost 1" less than the fender gap on the right side. I'm not sure what the problem is, but suggestions are very welcome. Thanks,

Doug

Your problem is not that uncommon, (rubbing w/ new tires, even if you stay the same size, but w/ another manufacturer it could happen), the thing that is uncommon, however, is the fact that you have a different clearance on one side than the other. Do you have a spacer on the left wheel that isn't on the right?

You can also "roll" your fender to accomodate that space that you need. Check out this website for instructions on doing this.

We had a customer come in with the same problem, tires werent rubbing but he had a larger gap on one side. We found that the front and rear rim widths are different and he had one front rim and one rear rim on the rear and vice versa. This might be the problem. That was on a 97 C36.

After seeing your suggestion, I measured my rims to be 100% sure that is not my problem, and it wasn't, but I was hoping that was the problem because it's an easy fix. Still stumped.
