300E Ignition Stuck HELP

My 1992 300E ignition key cannot turn.I can remove and the key just can't get the tumbler to turn. The steering wheel is also locked and I can't put the car in neautral since the key can't turn.I have tried wd40 jiggling the key and turning the steering wheel at the same time. Where is ther e a R&R procedure for this cutting removal etc.. I will keep trying to jiggle in the meantime.

THANKS

This happens to EVERY 300E at some point.

You need a new ignition switch.

Leave it alone until you're ready to drive it to repair shop.

Then, loosen tension on wheel and just try really hard to turn the key. It might turn but don't expect it to do it very many times and don't fantasize you can fix the existing switch.

This is not something a Pep Boys mechanic can fix--take to Mercedes specialist. Special tools, etc. It could be they'll have a "loaner" switch you can use until a new switch with matching key can be obtained from Mercedes. Bring proof of ownership of your car and driver's license number.

clk 230k
Regretful merc owner

Hello lkchris and all,

Thanks for the advise - i also own a merc clk 230 (year 2000)
my ignition is also troublesome. you sound like you've experienced this issue before!

i turn the key, wiggle the key, push the key without any movement.
the lock will simply not turn. the problem has now got to a stage were it takes me weeks to get it going.

can you give any information as how to posslibly resolve this without getting professional mechanics involve. i'm a electronics engineer so i'm really willing to give it a go!

many thanks
