CL600 Instrument Cluster

I purchased an '02 CL600 at auction that had been seized by the police. It sat in the impound yard for 3 years. The car runs fine but I was told when they jumped the car, they killed the instrument cluster. What do I need to check? I found two fuse panels under the hood but I don't want to start doing anything until I get some advice.

Also, I would like to change the oil myself and would appreciate any tips.

I've always worked on my own cars as much as possible but I'm a little intimidated by this car.

Well, if it's dead you most likely need to replace it. They are $865 +labor

Found on the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation website that Mercedes-Benz is going to issue a recall on 2000-2002 and 2004-2005 CL and S class cars to replace the instrument clusters due to electrical malfunctions. Recall is expected to begin July 2006. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at 1.800.367.6372.

Since it hasnt been on the road for some time why dont you get all of the hydraulic seals and suspension checked. These seals only last a long time if the car is being used regularly.

IC's from early CL and S classes are prone to failure due to a bad diode on the cluster. There are a few people that can fix this.
