MB-Tech- speed limiter question... different than before

Sorry about bringing this up again but my question is a little different. On an E55 is the speed limiter connected to the speedo? This may sound like a dumb question but if it is, then if one was to disengage the speedo wouldnt that defeat the limiter? Or is the limiter hooked up to another internal speed measuring mechanism?

Either way if one is to remove the Speed limiter is there any other performance gains (torque, hp) than just increasing the top speed. Wetterhauer (spelling) claims with their speed limiter removing chip that the E55 torque will jump to 410??

What are your thoughts on this and the consultant check fee that all Merecedes Benz Techs charge is in the mail.

The speedo is linked to the ECU though some complex systems like the Interor CAN BUS, etc. I would doubt that by disconnecting the electrical path to the other system would work to advert the limiter.

I would also bet that Wetterhauer is doing some ECU remappings for some gains in order to get torque to 410 ft-lbs. Simply by removing the Vmax (Speed Limitor) will not raise your torque spec.

Think of it this way: How does the car know how fast it is going? Really the only way it knows is by the 4 wheel speed sensors. As soon as the wheel speed signal hits the predetermined governed speed, it signals the ME control unit to cut the fuel, retard the timing, back off the electronic throttle actuator. Now before you go and unplug all your speed sensors, be aware that this will not disable your governor. It WILL disable your car though, as the speed signals are needed for such vital parameters as transmission upshift points, ESP, etc.

Come on, Vic 55, do you REALLY have to go faster than 250 km/h? I think M-B, Audi and BMW are entirely sensible to limit their cars to 250. Any more would be suicidal, even on the best public road.

I have never reached that magical level but have come close often. My question was more of a two part discussion. Per Wetterauer (or something like that) they remove the speed limiter with a chip which somehow gives the E55 a boost to 410 lb/ft of torque. I wanted to know that if removing the speed limiter, which costs about 1000 dollars, will indeed also give me that torque boost. Adam's (Awiner) response makes alot of sense but maybe MBTech can elaborate on this V-Max or speedlimiter chip. Or maybe Mr. V can answer this since he offers a similar product on his website.

And, yes I do agree that 155MPH is way too fast. Thank God for the German Gentlemens' agreement on sedan speed limits.
