2001 C240 - 2 problems

I have a 2001 C240 with 55000 miles. The automatic in/out steering wheel function has failed for the 3rd time and is $600 to replace a $5 part - so I'm ignoring that repair at this time, but I have 2 other problems that are driving me nuts. The sun roof is difficult to close and automatically backs up at different points when I try to close it. It can take 10 attempts to get it to close. The second problem is that the outdoor temperature gauge display is not working correctly. Sometimes it says that it is 120 for instance. It's hot here in Texas, but not that hot! Is there anything that I can clean/replace myself to fix these two annoyances? I will also NEVER have another car with aluminimum wheels. They are too easy to damage on curbs and potholes.

Sounds like you need to clean and lube the sunroof rails, then sync the roof- it is stopping because it thinks something is in the way.
As far as the outside temp- check to make sure the sensor is in the bumper like it's supposed to be - if they fall out , and lie behind the bumper on the splash shield- it gets a lot hotter. (it's a little black nipple that sticks out of the grill section on the bumper through a hole- should be on the LF, I think)

There is a special sunroof grease that merc sells in a small dropper bottle. it is VERY expensive though. Around 90 dollars. It sounds line the anti-pinch mechanism is taking into effect. Check the rails.

The temp sensor 9/10 times is usually pushed back like mbtech said.
