Front windshield replacement...

I got hit by a stray golf ball this weekend and there are cracks on my front windshield. Anyone been thru the unfortunate situation of changing out the front windshield? I need some advice as to what to look for, what questions to ask, what shop to go to...

I am located in So. Cal and drive a 97 E class.

thx

Use Original Equipment

I had a crack on my C-320 and insisted on a real MB replacement and not an after market knock off. Make sure you get that. Also, ask your dealer who they use for glass work as they refer quite a bit and get a lot done on their own with the used cars so they should have a good reference to someone familiar with MB glass work.

Good Luck,

JR

Should I also insist they change the molding / rubber strips around it?

They should definitely use new molding.
yeah..ask your dealer who they go to, don't let the dealer take care of it as they might try to add more cost...he he

Also, once you have it replaced, leave your windows open with a crack or even the sunroof...so that when you close all the doors, the vacuum doesn't blow out the new windshield. You need at least 24hrs to let the sealant harden and 3 days before washing the car.
Too bad you're not in NorCal..otherwise I'd know of a place for you to go to.

thx for the tips E420SportGT.

It looks like Safelite are going to be the installers and I'm insisting on OEM windshield. They mentioned a 'premium windshield' made in Germany that's the same as OEM except without the MB starmark on the bottom corner.
