Need maintenance tips for a 560SEC

Greetings...I'm new to this board and this is my first post.

Seven months ago, I purchased my first Mercedes. It's an '87 560SEC...pearl grey metallic with a grey interior, Centra wheels with Michelin Pilot VR4 225x50x16's, and it's lowered about 1 1/2 inches. I confess that I am now fully addicted to owning and driving my Mercedes!

I have always done my own maintenance on my vehicles, and I plan to continue the tradition with this one. I recently read the caution post about oil changes with the V8, and I'm wondering if there are any other 'unusual' proceedures I need to follow when working on my new (to me) Mercedes. Any and all input here is appreciated.

Other than the warning I posted a while back about building up oil pressure before starting the engine, everything on your 560 is a no-brainer when it comes to maintenance. Feel free to ask about any problems you may come upon.

Thanks, mbtech208.

I do have a couple more questions.

1. I plan to perform a complete cooling system service, including replacing hoses, thermostat and coolant. Do I need to use MB, or any 'special' coolant due to the alloy block and heads?

2. I'm going do a tune-up after a few more thousand miles. When changing the plugs, do you recommend using any 'special' anti-seize for the plug threads, or will any hi-temp anti-seize be OK?

3. Why no Model 126 area in this Forum? There are lots of 126's out there. Just curious.

Thanks again for the help.

1. Any coolant will work just fine, I'd recommend the Mercedes factory coolant. It's all I have experience with in these cars, and it works great.

2. For spark plugs, I use the Mercedes brake pad paste. Works fine for me, never had a stuck plug yet.

3. I brought up the lack of a 126 forum back when I joined in November, but no dice. Bring it up with Mr. Vanos.
