Exterior door handle mechanism

My driver door handle seems to be broken. The door opens and closes, no problem. But on pulling the handle to open the door, it feels different and makes a sound. It feels like it is loose inside and something broke. It makes a "cluck"/"pluck" sound like something is loose and falling off/broken. This problem/noise only occurs when opening from the outside.

So I'm thinking it is NOT the door latch itself since it does not occur when opening from the inside and does not occur when closing.

Anyone taken apart or change out their exterior door handle mechanism?

thx

Here's how you take that off:

1. Pull away the rubber door seal in the area of the handle.

2. You will see a small hole, if you look in the hole, there's a 4 mm Allen screw holding the small section of the door handle with the infrared receiver. Loosen the screw (don't worry, it won't fall out. It's a captured screw)

3. Remove the infrared section of the door handle by first pulling it rearward, and then out away from the door.

4. The main section of the door handle can now be removed by pulling it rearward as well, and then out.
