while driving home today i manually lowered the air flow coming from the climate control since i was trying to talk on my phone and it was noisy. when i went back to hit "auto" and let it do it's thing i noticed the climate control was running on the EC (economy mode). i hit the EC button but it won't go off.
is it likely my compressor is gone? any thoughts? thanks.

car is a 1999 E 320 with 98K miles.

You are most likely low on Freon (leak) or you have a faulty pressure switch.

a/c had been blowing very cold air just prior to the EC light coming on.

after some searching i see a few people have had to have a temp sensor replaced - that's not what u are talking about is it?

This is a common problem in w210s. Usually a faulty climate control module.

have it checked to see if it has freon in it. it could be as simple as programing the a/c panel. there is a setting you can change with a sds. change refrigerant level check to not active. and not to say the other guy is wrong but ive never replace a push button panel for this problem.
