Coolant smell?

I was driving my SL500 yesterday, and when I pulled in the garage, I noticed a very slight coolant smell near the hood. Also, a quiet "hissing" sound that lasted about 60 seconds or so, then stoppend entirely. Is this normal?

The car did not overheat. The temperature gauge never goes above 90 degress. Also, is 90 degrees the appropriate operating temperature?

Thanks for you input.

check around the coolant tank, thermostat and the rubber hoses to see if you see remnants of dried coolant. could be a small leak
