Front Central Jacking Point, E320 CDI
My '05 E320 CDI has a hard rubber block which protrudes below the undertray at about the location of the steering rack. Is this a central front jack point (as was the case in my '00 BMW E39)?
I'd like to find a safe central jacking point in the front of the car so I can put jackstands under the garage lift points below the rocker panels.
Thanks, all.

A couple of years ago, I reached under my R171 SLK car with digital camera. I read the part number from the photo and my dealer confirmed that it was indeed a jacking point. To solve the problem of getting the floor jack under the car, I drive up some RV "Lego" block like ramps. They raise the car four inches and that's enough to get the jack under the engine cross member. I modified some jack stands to fit into the jack pad receptacles. The W211 uses the same jack pad receptacles (part number 203-997-01-86) as the SLK and about 7 other chassis models. I had to cut the jack stands down by four inches and I also cut off the cradle and replaced it with a steel block. The jack stands shown in the photo are filled with BB's that transfer to the outer tube when the jack is raised.

Alas, I don't have your fabrication skills, so I'll have to make do with whichever of my 3 pairs of jackstands fits the best! This will still be a huge improvement over the method I've used so far (a small jack at each support point under the rocker panels, supplemented by jackstands under the suspension pickup points, just in case one of the jacks fails).
Thanks for posting, everybody!!!!
