Question R230 SL and AMG/Brembo Calipers install question

I am in the process of upgrading my brakes, and I was thinking of getting the AMG calipers off of a SL55. Do I need anything more than the calipers themselves to change my brakes? I know there are some tech guys on here who may have some insight on this. Thanks in advance.

You will need calipers, rotors, pads, and possibly steering knuckles... You would have to have both cars side by side to check or have a parts guy cross reference the part #'s.

Unfortunatly I just have the parts: calipers, pads, and rotors which I have bought. I was just thinking do I need to buy anything else before I take it all to a mechanic to have him install it. Pardon my ignorance, but what are brake knuckles? Also I guess now would be the time to put in steel brake lines if I want to do it right?

Like MBTECH2003 mentioned, you may have to replace the steering knuckles due to the different spindle sizes. A guy on the W211 forum did a similar brake upgrade and had to do this. Here's a picture of a steering knuckle on a W211 model look at item #10 (which includes the ball joint).

Apparently I do need to replace them. Does anyone know of a source where I can get MB parts, preferablly cheaper than MSRP.

I call Rob Lewis (513-870-1030) or email lewis_westchesteroh@mbretailer.com

He's a parts guy at that dealership and MBWorld has an account there and Rob offers a good discount on OEM parts to MBWorld members. I've dealt with him a few times and have no complaints -- great prices and service.

One can either remove the stock ones and redrill them to the correct Dia as the AMG Brake calipers use a LARGER Dia Shoulder on the caliper mounting bolt. The Machune shop should have a vertical mill or a high end drill press..as you dont want to be off on the drilling..Or Just Install New replacement spindles...

I Installed the AMG brakes on my wifes W211 and it was a bolt on upgrade
