Problem=Headlight harness wires are starting to burn out/corrode where you plug the headlight in; I'm using PIAA extreme white bulbs...I don't know if they were too hot or maybe just time to change wire's or socket.

I went to my indie guy to have him take look at it, and they say the whole harness needs to be replaced that runs deep into the cars frame, and the job my take "20hrs labor" I think they said the "part/harness" cost about $400 or so (You can tell how much I was trying to listen) they said they would call me back and let me know if that is the case.

My question is why replace the whole wire harness for the car, when only one wire looks like its burning out, where it attaches to the back of the light socket????????? What do you think?????????

I mean if worse comes to worse I would just splice the wire, and cut of the corroded part and sudder it to the back of the socket.

I'm not sure how the MB cars are, but I had the same problem on my F150. All I did was go to the parts store, buy a harness and splice right in. I'm sure the shop told you that the whole harness needed to be replaced so they could get some $$$ out of you...Unless of course, theres some special wiring that I dont know about.

The point to rember is that this was caused by your bulb installation. Change that too, once you repair the harness.

before you go replacing the whole harness try cleaning the connector with electrical contact cleaner as best you can and then apply dielectric grease at the connectors to keep moisture out. worth a shot.

Does anyone know if there is a wiring kit that MB sales with the headlight socket? When I called one dealer they said the can order the socket.

Its not a kit, but most all the contacts and sockets are available through your dealer.
