4-Matic problems
Have 93 300E 4-Matic that does not kick it when needed. Transmission seems fine. 4-Matic light on dash stays on all the time. Is there some type of relay that could be bad? Any info appreciated. Ken

The light on with the key on could be an electrical or hydraulic malfunction. For electrical you can perform an impulse code read out with a home made tester, with parts bought from radio shack. Do an online search for parts needed about $25.00
If no electrical codes are found, the malfunction is Hydraulic; the diagnostic is more involved, no impulse code read out for a hydraulic malfunction, pressure gauge and a manual. The 4 Matic transfer case is very complicated to diagnose.
As a side note all 4 tires MUST be the same Brand and have the same tire pressures, no worn tire for the system to work properly.
