Power Steering Rack question.........

I have a 1997 E420. I am in the process of replacing front steering components, lower ball joints, tierod ends inner and outer, swaybar bushings, etc.... Is there a mounting rubber bushing for the rack and pinion which might need to be replaced also? Seems to me that I have seen some links posted in here to the front suspension on the W210 series and I would sure like to find them again. Thanks.

You can subscribe to Mercedes' EPC (electronic parts catalog) for only $20/year and have available illustrated parts breakdowns for all systems on your car.

I think the bushings are part of the rack and I dont believe they are available seperatly. A new rack is about $1400.00

OK, let me try this angle. Without going to the dealership I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I know that the rack attaches to the frame with bolts that must have bushings. I wouldnt think that you have to buy a whole rack & pinion just to replace bushings.

Without having to subscribe to something I probably wont use more than once or twice how about one of you MB techs. Maybe you can solve this mystery.............can I buy the bushings?

Thanks.

Rack and pinion,
Hi everyone,, I just bought my first E320 (1996) with only 103K miles, run like a dream but 600 miles later the Rack and Pinion start to leak real bad, dealer priced me at $1700.00 job,, I found a remanufactured unit on ebay and my local mechanic install it it for me ,, total cost was under $500.00 , when I packed the old rack and pinion to ship it for core refund, it was also remanufactured unit,
Now my question is,,, is the rack and pinion on this car a headache thing? is this a very likely common problem? the car has under 110K miles,,,, what do you people think? please advise..
Thanks all
