R129 Transmission Electrical Connector???

Anybody change a trans electrical connector on a 99 SL500 5spd Auto? If so, are there any tips you'd like to share with me. My trans is leaking from the connector & I just purchased the $6.00 part.

1 Do I need to drop the pan?
2 Does the plug press back in?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

You need a 7mm socket, as this is what holds the "bushing" in place as you should be able to see in the new part. Don't need to drop pan.

You will lose some fluid, so have something to catch it and be ready to quickly install the new plug (bushing).

The plug on end of wire harness is locked by a quarter turn or so, and clearly that's how it's removed.

Changing the connector is the easy part. You'll have to check the transmission fluid level and refill it when your done. I.E. special shop dipstick, 80* C, blah blah blah.

But honestly, you can probably get away with adding just 1 liter of fluid afterward, and probably won't have a problem. That's usually the average amount of fluid loss when doing this job.

Thanks...I'm headed to the Garage.

Guys,

Thanks for your tips, sounds like the most difficult part is getting under the car. I'll keep you posted.

Headed to the Garage...
