I don't worry about the messages. I've had several (but not this one) come and go with nothing being done. I've also read numerous posts about different messages appearing and disappearing on the C and other models as well. A diagnostic device can tell if something is stored in memory that gave you the error. It's sad that you can't always trust the messages.

That has hapened to me a few times. it is nothing. they say that it's because of bad gas. if that is not the case then take a look if your gas cap is closed properly. the light normaly shuts off after driving 20 miles
good luck

advice
If your car is under warranty - have it checked out as soon as it's convenient.
If it's not under warranty and you have money to burn, take it in anyway.
If it's not under warranty and you're not into spending money at a M-B dealer, sit on it until/unless it becomes a regular occurence and/or the car begins to run or act strangely.
You could always get an aftermarket OBD or OBDII fault reader if you really want to know was ist los mit deine auto.

could be a bag gas cap, just a large vaccuum leak .
may be a mass air sensor ,,seems to be a common failure, also maybe a bad o2 sensor ,,,
keep track of fuel miliage ,probably dropping

i personally think that most of these error messages are occuring because folks get in the car and start it immediately. is what i do is turn the key to the position just before it stars and let it sit there for about 5-6 seconds until the gas gauge comes up and other stuff, such as idiot lights shut off. then start the car. i beleive that this gives the computer a few seconds to read all sensors and make its calculations, etc. just my opinion.

There may be 20 or 30 different errors than can make the "check engine" warning light come on.
It is not that easy to say what is wrong just because the check engine warning light came on.
Only an error code will make things clear. This is not the same as warning lights or messages for the driver.
It definitly has nothing to do with immediatly starting the car.
The reaction time of the ECU's is quicker than the time between putting on the ignition and starting the engine.

In addition to the Check Engine Electronics message and the 'check engine' light, I also have the low gas warning light flashing on the gas guage. Has everyone seen this as well?
