$15 oil change, API and MB Sheet classifications and more...
FYI,
Kragen has Pennzoil "Platinum" synth oil for $3.50 a quart + 15 case rebate=$1 a quart! But, while other Pennzoil synth oils are listed as approved at
http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html, the "Platinum" oils are not.
You need to get the coupon, which they have in the store.
However it appears the "Platinum" oils replace the earlier versions Pennzoil sold. You can see the ads on TV for this product, how it reduces shearing etc. I doesn't have an MB Sheet rating, however it has the SM rating, which a newer spec than the SJ 1st used in the FSS system.
Some info on API classes...http://www.performanceoiltechnology....ifications.htm
For FSS engines, the whnet website states
"Vehicles with the Flexible Service System FSS from MY1998-2004 can use 229.5, 229.51 or 229.3 oils."
Some of the 229.5 oils are the newer SM spec such as the
Mobil 1 SuperSyn European Car Formula 0W-40
SM/CF
A3/B3/B4
14.3
X
229.3
X
So, would it follow that other oils not yet tested (latest technology)
with the SM rating would be ok? I find it to believe the oil could be that different, I mean we're not talking Joes Motor oil, we're talking Pennzoil's latest and greatest product? What could happen?
If so, including the oil filter you could change your oil for about 15 bucks!
