Fuel Filter 1991 500SL

Fuel Filter 1991 500SL
Hi.
I want to change the filters (air and fuel) on my 500SL, but have run into a basic problem.
The air filters are easy to locate and, "mission accomplished". But, can someone please tell me the location of the fuel filter?
I hope it's not that 3 inch long canister beside the distributor on the driver's side, mixed in with all that "plumbing". If it is, should I attempt to replace it myself? Will I need any specialized tools? Or is it something that has to be done by the professionals?

The fuel filter is under the vehicle next to the fuel pump. I think its on the passanger side just in front of the right rear wheel, should have a plastic cover covering the pump and filter that will need to be removed first.
