EZL Thermal Grease Compound
The EZL in my 91 300ce went bad.
It was replaced about 5 years ago.
The bad EZL has a layer of thermal paste, covered by a layer of clear plastic.
The replacement EZL also has this layer of clear plastic covering the paste.
When installing a new EZL, shouldn't the clear plastic be removed so
the heat conducts to the car chassis?

Service manual says DONT remove foil
The 104 engine service manual says in section 15-2093 - Removal and installation of EZL/AKR ignition control module:
NOTE:
Heat conducting paste has been applied to the
rear of the control module and covered with
heat-conducting protective foil for improved heat
dissipation. The protective foil must not be
removed.
This appears to be telling me to leave the clear plastic film
on the unit. This can't be as an insulator because the base
of the module conducts to the chassis through the studs and
nuts. So, is it to simply keep the paste on?
