ticking noise when accelerating 1989 BENZ 420 SEL
Hi I have an 89 420 SEL w/ 275,000 miles. SOMETIMES it jumped around at an idle, I thought maybe the plugs. I was runnig it on regular gas.
My dad "reved" it up really hard and took apart my distrubitor cap to see if it was ok. It had a little smoke coming from it. (When the car was off.)
Then he changed my plugs and over filled my oil.
When he put my car back together it was ticking like crazy. IT NEVER TICKED BEFORE.
Now it ticks when accelerating and does a little hissing or missing sound at the idle. And its still jumping at an idle.
The car is super nice and my only driver right now any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Judging from what you said, the car is extremely poorly cared for.
You could have carbon buildup form the unsuitable gasoline, varnish from what I am guessing is cheap oil, or a number of things...
