Problem Starting CLK-320

I drive a 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK-320 (with about 100,000 miles).

A couple weeks ago when I went to start it, I turned the key, it made the sound like the engine was starting, but then promptly interrupted itself and sort of cluncked out and didn’t start. I turned the key again, and it did the same thing. Then, I tried a third time, and it worked fine – as if there had never been a problem…

It worked fine – no problems at all – for the next couple weeks. Then this afternoon (after it had started fine in the morning), it did the exact same thing – didn’t start the first couple times, then worked fine. Now it’s starting normally again.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Is this something I should worry about?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I should add: when it doesn’t start, it’s not like it tries and keeps trying, then doesn’t start. It almost immediately cluncks out and doesn’t start.
