ML 320CDI Burning Rubber Smell

Has anyone ever complained a burning rubber smell from the pass. side front wheel well of their ML? Mine is a '07 320 CDI, and I notice it after engine shutdown after driving for a while. Tires are stock 19", and nothing seems to touch anything. Don't smell it when driving. 18k miles on odometer, belts and hoses look ok from what I can tell. Hoping to get some info before a trip to the dealer.

Oil on exhaust sometimes smells like burning rubber.

The ML is a "CDI" in the US, not a Bluetech, had to check from MBUSA. I assume it anyway has the same exhaust, particularly the particle filter.

When I started driving the 221.112, I sometimes got really afraid of something burning in the car. It took me some time to learn that it actually is regeneration of the particle filter. If regeneration had just started before you stopped, the smell can be pretty strong. I thought some electric parts are catching fire in the car.

You can sometimes notice this even at city driving when stopping at lights while the process is ongoing.

May be something else in your case but regeneration of the particle filter would be one likely option.

Ahh ha...Thanks!!...Now that you point that out, I think its got to be the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) doing its regen thing. I have only noticed it once before in the year I have owned it, both times in my driveway as I got out of the car after driving through snow. It would make perfect sense. Never had a CDI/DPF vehicle before, my prior ride was a 04' Dodge diesel that was not afraid to belch soot..so that smell caught me by surprise. Big thanks for the great info...This forum just gets better and better.
