what is a fair price to replace the water pump for my 96 E320?
Hi guys,
I need to know what is a fair price for the shop to replace my water pump,labor+parts. Some local shop here is trying to charg me $770 to do this job.... I thought the price is kind of high
Do you guys know any good reasonable shop in San Diego area that can help me?

Contact any mercedes benz dealer and ask the service department for the Labor time and Quote...The Time is based on a flat rate system...Should give you a guide to go by...
Take a Look at fastlane over at MERCEDESSHOP..Phil has Good prices.. For the Water pump...That should help you on the Price!
I Would also replace the thermostat and radiator cap at the same time!

Yes, what are the symptoms ?
I had an MB tech tell me to replace the waterpump on my '96 E320, because it was noisy. Since he didn't really elaborate, I declined and looked at it myself.
I used a '97 E320 for comparison, but couldn't detect a difference in the noise level. I took off the v-belt and checked the pump for play in the shaft or leakage. None of either. The coolant temperature was also stable.
So I decided not to go ahead with a replacement. That was 20K miles ago.
That being said: A coolant pump failure could have dire consequences. If you're unable to check yourself, I would maybe get a second opinion.
