jack question

What is the jack pad located under the engine used for ? I notice that most mbs have this lift point but I've never used it Can the front of the car be lifted using this lift pad ? Seems like the left to right balence would be difficult

It works fine. The R-L balance is okay 'cause the rear is stable, either on stands or on the wheels. A three point contact, either lifting the front or the rear is fine.

I would only use a floor jack to lift at this pad position; anything else would not be safe.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
During assembly and major body repairs the whole suspension can be lifted in or out. The pad is helpful in that process.
