![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Where to buy Mobil1 0W40? The local dealership here in Washington state said they have not even seen 0W40 oil yet it is only available on paper.
I live on west coast in Washington state. There are no Mobil stations here. I have also called 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES and they said they do not know where to get it from. I have also tried stores like Schucks...
Mercedes recommends 0W40 for E430 so could someone please tell me if they know where to buy Mobil 0W40 synthetic oil from?
Thanks,
Victor

Back in 1997 the Mobil 1 "0W" line was all over the place in Massachusetts. But I've since then moved to Florida where it is of little use. I can't imagine it is that hard to find. Awsome stuff that Mobil 1, though.

The year is 2002. Just go to the Mobil E-Store:
http://www.exxonmobil.com/netcom/mall/
BTW, they sell 0W30, not 0W40. I think I ran into that discrepancy before. Something about how the measures are done in different countries. 6 Quart Pack is $26.99

Mobil 1 0W40 is not available in North America
If you go to www.Mobil1.com, you may find that 0W40 is an Euro spec oil that is currently not available in North America.
Having said that, this apparently is the BEST oil for MB. There is an article in the 3/2001 Mercedes magazine.
Since MB recommends Mobil1, and its in-house magazine recommends 0W40, this appears to be the BEST of BEST for MB cars. Alas this is not for sale in North America.

The M/B Approved Products List lists eight MB Approved Synthetic Engine oils. The two approved Mobil 1 grades are 0W-40 and 15W-50. 15W-50 is good down to +5 degrees F, so unless you are consistently leaving the car in temps that low it should not be necessary to fret over finding 0W-40. The concern is getting oil quickly to all parts of the engine on cold startup; start up is when almost all wear occurs. If you are seriously concerned about cold temps in your area, go with 5W-30 in the cold months. 5W-30 is an approved oil grade in the list; it just doesn't specifically "approve" Mobil 1 5W-30. But face it, Mobil 1 is a premium product in any grade. And anyone who would raise a warranty issue over using 5W-30 in really cold climates would not have a leg to stand on in court, considering that it is an approved viscosity grade. This whole issue of 0W-40 is being blown way out of proportion, and not just on this board. The Porsche guys are doing the same thing. I've run all sorts of cars into the 200K plus miles range over the last 40 years and have never experienced an oil related failure. Just change your oil and filter regularly and relax. By the way, I never bought into the FSS system, choosing to change the oil in our E430 every 5,000 miles. The theory behind FSS is valid. In large marine diesel propulsion engines the engine oil is never changed unless testing reveals a serious problem. It is centrifuged and lab tested regularly. The FSS sensors are performing an abbreviated lab test on a constant basis. Why don't I buy into it? Just being ****.
