Red face How is parktronic works? Is it useful?

Hi. I am still newbie to the site. I just wonder how is the parktronic on CL and S class? Does people find them useful or just waste of money? I am thinking to buy a used mercedes that does not have Parktronic. I don't know if I am going to regret or not. Please provide some comments.

Since you are considering a used Mercedes, I assume you would get an acoustic/ultrasound based Parktronic like on almost any MB model while the current S/CL would be using RF radar based sensors when equipped with Distronic Plus.

In my opinion the older acoustic ones are even more accurate at very close range while the radar based ones have a lot longer range. If you do have to park the car with any kind of object close to it, Parktronic turns out to be very useful.

On an MB you would get a separate visual indication for each corner and a warning sound at close range.

Parktronic was standard for my W221 but I have had it as an option on multiple cars for years and I would select it among one of the very first options I would consider for a new car.

Mine might be a minority opinion, but I went out of my way to take an S65 that didn't have Parktronic (it was essentially a no-cost option for the model). I don't park in the very tight spots that are unavoidable in Europe, and I consider knowing where your car's edges to a fair degree of accuracy, without assistance, a requirement of competent driving. I find the beeping annoying and, while it can be turned off, I find the bumper transponders very ugly. Those warts have been eliminated in the W221 combined Distronic/Parktronic system, and I might consider it for that model. But in the US, I don't consider Parktronic a must-have at all.

Thanks guys. I first purchase my W220 without parktonic and kind regret it. But now I have chance to purchase used amg 55 (without parktonic) or 600 (with parktonic). I really do feel confuse to know which one to choose. I like AMG veheicle better .
