mileage light stays on, until battery dies.

I have a 1997 E420 AMG, once the key is removed from the ignition, the lights for the mileage, temperatur, and time does not deem/go off. They remain on until the battery dies. A warning of Engine Electronic /Check Engine, appears. Could this be a battery/fuse/bulb issue?
