Flex service system
I have a question for you all. How often do you change the oil on your fss cars. I have one dealer reccomending sticking to the 12k 1 year services, and another reccomending splitting that at 6k.
What do you do, and why? Are there any advantages to more frequent services?
It seems like the second dealer is trying the "jiffy lube" routine. Wouldn't Mercedes-Benz be a little conservative in reccomending service work in regards to their reputation? (burned up engines at 60k would be some mighty bad press!)
BMW's reccomendations are closer to 15k, makes me wonder; what is the mileage limit of synthetic?
Thanks in advance for all the feedback.

I follow the FSS recommendation. I sent my oil out for analysis and it verified the FSS is accurate, if not a bit conservative. No advantage for more frequent changing....in fact there is the disadvantage that you could screw something up while doing the service. Have your oil analyzed at the next change if you want to feel good.....$20 well spent. It can also point out higher than usual wear particles and what the wear is potentially associated with.

If you're doing high milage, then stick to the fss. If 1 year comes around first, then change it every year.
I think anything over a year is worth having a service done, if not for the oil then for checking everything else on the vehilce during the service.
For high yearly milage vehicles, fss gives great savings on maintainace costs and yes, with the RIGHT fluids they can handle the higher milages with ease.

ML500 AMG pkg
MB has just changed there service intervals to 10K on every 09 model to simplify confusion. The AMG's and Diesels were at 10K and everything else was 13K. I've always done and recomended an oil change in between which I get my tires balanced and rotated at the same time. I was able to get 32K miles on my pirelli pzero.
