SL550 09 Hardwiring a V1

Not a good day for me....................Thought this supposed wiz kid could handle this without a problem and took him 5 hours to do very little?

Have a Valentine Radar detector and brought a bracket to fit under the mirror, had the splitter for the remote which was to be placed in the ashtray...Fitter had problems getting the console off and I had to call Mercedes to advise him how to do it. When I finally went to collect the car, he told me that the remote kept blowing a fuse and I was to return it to the manufacturer(when it worked perfectly well the previous week in the ciggy lighter..he also said he tried the remote directly in the ciggy lighter and that kept blowing a fuse)....................main unit seems to work ok but haven't had the police around to really see how it works yet. So I went home with the remote not operational...........................

Noticed that he had actually used my Ciggy lighter adapter and complete curly cord to hardwire the main unit and the splitter that was supplied for the remote(which he said didn't work and is only intented for this purpose) was given back to me!!!!) Therefore if I wanted to remove the main unit and transfer to another car, I would have to purchase another adapter for it to work.

And the final straw was coming home and calling the owner of Valentine(V1) to tell him what had occurred and he quite rightly said the fitter should have tested the remote in either another car or elsewhere to see if it was faulty or not but further shocked me when he said that only with the SL's and in particular with the 09 that have a metalic strip been placed on the glass, they have been having problems with their unit not working properly and the unit needs to be placed away from this metal that has been used for UV purposes or whatever??

Not a good day...any techies out there who care to comment on all of this..

Thx.........
