too many problems now

First off I have a 1998 S500. The car rides terrible. I never lowered it or put low profile tires. when I am driving ,and go over the smallest flaw in the road theres a big bang inside car. I put new accumulators about a year ago and new shocks in the front about a month ago. My 1960 vw bus rides better. Second now the car starts ratteling at 30 miles per hour and up. If i let off gas it slightly goes away. A mechanic told me it is probably the flex plate. True? The car has 101000 miles on it. Also when coming to a stop the transmission is kicking down to fast and sometimes a small clunk noise. Can someone help? I really like this car but if these problems continue I am gonna have to burn it! Thanks............

brake out the ramps

you got to get under the car and touch everything.clunks and bangs can be exhaust system supports among many other things.as far as the ride goes,it does not make much sense, that car should ride smooth and quiet.it isnt gonna ride like a lincoln because MB's handle also.downshifting to me sounds kind of normal, they will drop into the next gear while decelerating throttle off,and you will notice it.check the coupling on the back of the drive shaft also check axel shafts for any excessive play.if the tranny has been abused ie "never had the fluid flushed" then it is a tough call.you leave the fluid alone and it might keep going, you flush the fluid and it may keep going and improve the operation,or the tranny goes out soon after the fluid change.no rime,no reason.

Turns out the shaking was caused from a broken bolt through the rear flex plate. Accelerates fine nowwith out shaking. 1 problem down 3 or more to go.

09 E350 ,
look into engine mounts trans mount and lower control arm bushings ,it will get rid of the clunks and smooth out inside ride noises over all ,do a trans flush and filter also .

success!

the little issues that you repair will only make you love MB even more, they are designed to be maintained and with each repair you will be extending it's service life dramatically.watch out, once you are bitten it wont take long and you will find yourself at a dealer spending huge $ on your dream car.
