Slight problem

Hi All,
Im new to the forum so forgive me if this question has been answered already (although i have tried to search for a resolution on the forum but couldnt find one) or this is the wrong section.
I have a E270 cdi (2004 model) and recently replaced the battery- the battery i installed stated its starting output was 800 amps (whilst the original was something like 780 i think)- would this cause problems?
The reason why i ask is because on the driving console it keeps stating that the convinience function battery protection is unavailable...and the car (although its a auto) cut off suddenly at a junction during breaking- the console starting flashing and brake warnings came on...etc.
I was wondering could it be the battery? or something mechanical?
many thanks and kind regards.

If you just put a "new" battery in the car and your still having issues, I would start inspecting the charging system.

I think that car has two batteries. Perhaps your secondary is bad. Also, a number of systems have to be reset after the primary battery has been disconnected, unless you used an alternate voltage source while you were swapping batteries. I think the manual discusses this. I believe that in some cases, especially if the secondary battery is weak and the primary is removed, the dealer must reset some things. I think this complexity has to do with the Sensotronic brakes.

There is a "battery control module" which checks the discharge rate of te battery to work out when to turn consumers functions off. A different type (wet cell, gel, AGM etc) discharge differently so the control module will continue to think that the battery is discharged.

To relearn the discharge rate do the following:
1) switch on ignition (engine off)
2) switch on all exterior lights (including fogs), rear defroster, hazzard lights and A/C fan on full speed (manual fan speed)
3) wait 2 minutes
4) start engine, wait 5 mins

As for the stalling, check that the battery terminals are tight and the 13mm nut for the battery control module to the body is tight.

If it stalls again then take it to the dealer for further diagnosis
