Low beam

The right low beam no longer working so I thought it was the bulb but when i swapped it with the left side the problem is still there so it is not the bulb then. Took it to the dealer and he is asking for about $1600 to $1800 to replace the “Xenon module” and this is not going to be covered by the extended warranty and I am not ready to pay it for now. So I have couple questions here. Is it safe if I plugged a broken bulb into the left side so I keep both headlights off (it has the DLR option so I can not turn the lights off from the switch), 2nd question does anybody know where to find a DIY on how to replace this module. The car is 04 CLK 55 AMG by the way.
I appreciate any help here and thanks

Sounds pretty steep. If it's not the bulb it's usually the igniter or maybe the ballast. $400 sounds more like it. Get another opinion. Also, can't you turn off your running lights from the instrument panel?
