2004 E500 Question...any mechanics?

I have a 2004 E500 that I recently took to my mechanic who was rotating tires and examining random things when he noticed something odd on the undercarriage. He was looking around the differential when he noticed that there were two holes, one of which contained some kind of bushel (left) while the other was empty (right).

He's more of an old-school kinda guy and hasn't dealt with a car like this before, so it left me wondering: Was it designed like this? I had other obligations at the time so I didn't have the time to fully diagnose, and thats why I'm posing this question to you knowledgeable board members.

Any help? I'm attaching a couple pictures.

Yeah, it looks like there was supposed to be another bush but that's how they are produced so there is nothing to worry about. That catches a few people out.

All the mounts are on one side only, but balanced:

Since the torque strain will be in that direction it makes sense to tie down the subframe at those points. But having the opposing, unused, pair of mount points is a bit of a mystery.
