1998 Mercedes Benz S420
98 S420 OVERHEATING PROBLEM
I recently just purchased my first Mercedes, and on my way home from the purchase, it overheated realy bad on me. The lights on the dash cluster were burned out and it was at night 
. I made it to my condo, but it was starting to diesel as I pulled it in and parked it. The radiator hose had come completely off and there was no coolant in the radiator. To the questions:
Where is the thermostat located on the S420? Can it be removed and driven without Check Engine Lights (I live in Hawaii)?
What are the chances that the bearings are spun/ruined from the motor dieseling? Would new pistons also be required?
How much would a head gasket job cost at a dealership? How much would a full full engine rebuild cost at a dealership/small shop?
Lesson learned, sometimes a good deal is not as good as it seems. Thank you for your time and helping out a noob.
