In my 1980 450SL, the battery died. The thing is that the battery is in the trunk, this car has a vacuum lock system that is old (!), and the car will not start. So, since the car won't start, the vacuum will not pull to allow the trunk lock to work to allow me to get in the trunk to remove the battery. (I would have thought the trunk lock would accept the key as a bypass, exactly because of situations like this, but it does not.) How do I get around this? All suggestions gratefully appreciated!
