is there any difference between a 108 cdi and a 110 cdi engine...apart from horse power..?
will it fit into my engine bay as i have got a loud tapping noise internally in my engine.

well, we dont have the Vito stateside, but I think thats an OM602 turbo, so tecnically, it should bolt up and work just fine...
obviously dont quote me on that since we dont have them here..

The basic engine is the same, the level of tune and the turbo will be different. You can swap the long engine (block, sump, head) with the 108, just reuse the manifolds (intake and exhaust) as they may have some differences.
