GL 320 CDI
Service A

I have a GL 320 CDI with 7,300 miles and 10 months. Is the Service A scheduled because of the time (10 months) rather than the 7,300 miles?

What will I be missing if I only have an oil change rather than the full Service A?

Thanks.

It's one year or 10K miles, whichever comes first.

What you'll miss just having the oil changed is the chance for the dealer to look the car over and the chance to have the dealer recognize you as an intelligent customer worthy of their going the extra mile for.

I would not trust even an oil change on this vehicle to someone without prior Mercedes experience and would not attempt ANY DIY without first owning the Mercedes service DVD.

The engine in your GL320CDI is the most sophisticated, technically complicated engine sold in the USA in a "mainstream" vehicle (e.g. not a Ferrari) and you should treat it accordingly.

The time for the first service is set at the factory unless the dealer adjusted it. It is 1 year. If the car sits on the lot for a few months (or took a few months to deliver) without use, you don't need to count that time. Ask your dealer if you should wait until you have been driving the vehicle for 12 months or met the mileage requirement before you need the A service. It has been my experience that they will tell you it is fine to wait a few more months and then have the complete service done.

What is the dealer going to do for your A service...
Oil change, maybe rotate tires, that is about it.

Anyone who knows what they are doing can do an oil change, though yes anyone can screw it up.
