I have a 2000 S500. The car has air suspension as you already know. When I drive and hit bumps or even steer at times I hear a loud squeaking from the engine that makes the car sound 20 years old. I was told it could be the control arms and that I'd have to replace the front pair. Is this true? Please help me out. Thanks very much.

I have a 2002 CL600 with 97k miles on it. Coincidentally, the squeaking has crept up on my car as well. Is it also with your steering wheel and at low speeds?
You can check my post in the CL-forum titled "Shocks, struts, and squeaking." There's a link that cabbe posted which was a previous discussion of this squeaking problem.
It could be your struts, control arms, ball and joints, or even bushings. It can be a matter of lubrication or replacement of parts. Since you have a 2000 Sonderklasse, the vehicle is up there in mileage--seems like a matter of wear and tear, an inevitability of course.

Sounds like lower ball joints ,also make sure the lower control arm bushings are not rubbing the sub frame from wear ,hope this helps ,
