Electrical gurus: Headlight help needed

'06 E55. Active Xenon Headlamps.

Sorry for the long read.

After washing the car I noticed (got a warning) that the left lowbeam was out as well as the active headlamp function was not available. I checked behind the head light housing and found that the rear cap had come off. I had thought perhaps some water had gotten in and shorted something. I replaced the HID bulb but it still did not work. I swapped ballasts and bulbs from left to right and the problem still stayed on the left side. Because of this I can say that both bulbs and ballasts are OK, but there is a connection or relay or fuse somewhere that may be faulty.

Does anyone have any suggestions or insights ??

TIA.

The control unit sits on the bottom of the headlight assembly. You can swap them from side to side and see if the problem follows, although if water got into the control unit you will probably be able to see corrosion on the connector of the control unit when you pull it off.

Good luck
