ECU tuning sourced from Germany

Has anyone tried this? Is this similar to the ECU tuning done for megabucks by Kleeman, Renntech etc in the USA? From reading the description I see little difference.
From a convenience point of view I see little difference unless you are fortunate enough to be located next to one of the shops. One still has to take out the ECU and send it to them. Or buy a new Ecu and send to them and install it.
