What the heck is this "tick-tock" sound?

What the heck is this "tick-tock" sound?
I drive a '98 C280, and from time to time it'll make this weird tick-tock sound. It occurs at the most random times, I think when I've been driving fairly long distances especially.

Anyone think they might know what's going on, where it's coming from and why?

mine does it too after a long enough drive ..its just heat i think
