1970 250CE Transmission H.E.L.P.
Hello, I have a 1970 250CE (originally sold in Italy, so it's not US spec.) with the column shift automatic. I'm guessing she has around 250,000km on the engine / trans. When driving, she will shift into second at 20 kph, third at 30kph, and fourth at 40-50 kph regardless of how hard I press on the acc. pedal. Also, the trans won't downshift if I floor press hard on the acc. pedal, nor does the kickdown switch work. Does anyone have any thoughts or ramblings on this? The car doesn't have a tach, so I can't really tell what my engine speed is when I'm doing around 60, but it sounds high. Does anyone have any experiance with these transmissions?

Yeah, thats one of the things I (with my Haynes manual of course
) checked. I found one disconnected vacuum line and reconnected it, it didn't fix the transmission, but it was DID cure my cold idle speed issue. hehe. I'm guessing there has to be some kind of throttle position sensor / linkage issue, but my haynes manual is pretty brief when it comes to the acc. pedal.

Did a fluid and filter change today, it helped shift quality a little, but didn't change the early upshifts and lack of kickdown.

It changes all the time
That car should have a K4C 025 tranny. It should have a vacuum modulator and a control pressure rod. I would check the vacuum line to the modulator and the modulator itself. No tranny fluid should run out of the mod when you disconnect the line. Also check bushings on control pressure rod.

Thank you. I wasn't sure about it having a vacuum modulator, but I have found that control pressure rod, if you're facing the front of the car it's on the right side, the bushings look OK, but it looks like it's adjustable. Nowhere in my Haynes manual does it tell me how to adjust it. I'll try and find the vacuum modulator later today and see if any ATF is leaking from it.
