Programming Ign Key
Just got me a 2002 CLK that came with only one ignition key. I have found a thread the tells how to program a new key (batt charger, leave key in Pos2 for 2min-6hrs). I plan to purchase a spare key and program it but have a few questions---
1--If I program a second key will it wipe out the programming for the first key??
2--Will the programming sequence also program the remote functions or will it only program the ignition and there is a separate procedure for setting the remote functions?
Thanx in advance
(former GM only guy, now experimenting with MB)

Key's MUST be purchased through your dealer using YOUR vin. Generally requires proof of ownership prior to ordering.
ANY other key is a fancy paperweight.

That is somewhat true eddie if a dupe key is ordered and is canceling another key out it can take overnight to sync. It depends on how many times the original key has cycled and the age of the vehicle. Hotrod the key will only be canceled at your request when you order the key. If you have a key and want to cancel out the other key that was assigned they need to hook up your car to a star diagnosis and cancel it. Do not purchase keys outside of the dealer.

As an owner, you learn "not" to toss your keys to a friend like you do with a Chevy Cav.......you can have 8 keys out at any one time. The ign is good for 200K turns of the key before DAS and Door locks need to be repalced; that gets you get another 200k turns of the key.

---I've had the PASS key reader go bad in a GM. You have to replace the ignition switch in the column and new keys come with it. I am planning on piling up ALOT of mile on this CLK. I buy cars for work and typically get rid of them around 200Kmi. You telling when the Ign wears out on the CLK you have to replace the door locks?? That sounds curious, please explain more.
