MCS Radio no sound/no cd changer found 03ML350

I did a search but found nothing on this. My 03 ml 350 MCS just stopped working all of a sudden. No other issues other than no sound and a no cd player found error. The cd player ejects the cartrige etc but the head unit won't recognize it. I've tried pulling the fuse and also disconnecting the battery cable. Both with no luck. Any help? Thanks. Is there a common area for the fiber optic cable to get pinched?

Optical output on head unit went bad. Only fix is thru a company on the east coast that fixed factory Alpine radios. Cost 250 worked perfectly ever since.

If your head unit work but you don't get sound. You need the special radio removal tools to pull head unit 2 bucks on ebay if you don't have them.
Then unplug the fiber optic cable and turn on radio. If it doesn't flash red out of the fiber optic plug or flash red on the cable side you have a problem. The whole system, HU, amp, cd player, and Teleaid unit are all connected in series via a fiber optic cable. Unplug one at a time and look at both ends to see where there is no red signal flash.

Good Luck

PS dealer told me it would be $4000 to fix ...bunch of jags!
