Key wont turn in the ignition..No ZIP noise

I have already:

1. Replaced a battery
2. Bought a new key

Still:

There is no ZIP noise when inserting key. All it tells me to do is "Please remove key" while beeping at me.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the double post in the w208 section. Didnt see the tech section till later.

One of the first steps in the DAS security handshake to initiate a start is the steering wheel lock retracting. Thats what you do not hear.

The key batt powers the signal for the door locks only. Nothing else.

The key is a transponder; the ign is the transducer.

Confirm the new batt is good (headlights coming on means nothing) using a multimeter. Then check all fuses. After that get it scanned by the dealer.

God that it was simple....now you need to know why you are popping fuses though.
