1977 280SE transmission questions

I have a 1977 280SE that has had the motor replaced with one from a 1980 280SE (the pictures I saw were a 126 chassis and the motor mounts were for the 126 as well). I saw that the back plate of the motor had holes to mate with another bolt pattern.

My transmission is loosing reverse and I don't want to pay for a rebuild so I want to find out if the transmission from my 1981 380SEL part car will mate up to this motor without having to take the cars apart first.

Also, can any one tell me what model transmission is most likely in my 77 280SE (116) and what model was most likely in the 80 280SE (126)

I know I am asking for a lot of info and some strange questions but any help is appreciated
