Headlight switch wiring question

I have a W203 with the standard headlight switch (no headlamp washer button). I'm trying to find the wire that will trigger the relay for the headlamp washer. I figured out the brown is ground and the red/green is power but there are 12 other wires. Can someone please post the connector pinouts or the color code for that wire. Also, do the headlamp washers only work with the headlamps on or all the time?

The headlamp washers work all the time. What exactly are you trying to do, retrofit headlight washers to your vehicle?

Close, I'm trying to activate the headlamp pump using the existing wiring to spray the intercooler. The pump and that harness are in place. The red/grayish green wire that leads from the pump goes into a module next to the ECU, my guess is that includes the relay or timer for the headlamp washer. When you press the headlamp washer button is it on/off or is there a timer interval that operates the headlamp washer? If I can trigger the wire that would have gone to the headlamp switch button I can spray the intercooler, if it's on a timer that keeps is on for so many seconds, even better.

That's a great idea. However, I hope you don't plan to use the washer fluid to spray the intercooler. The washer fluid is heated by the engine coolant, so if you used the washer fluid, you'd just be spraying hot water on the intercooler anyways.

Heated washer water? Arghh. There's room for seperate tank I could install and still use the same pump. Any ideas on what the color code is for the headlamp washer switch?

I haven't the slightest idea off the top of my head, there's just too many wires in a car. I could look it up next week though.

Thanks, I would appreciate that. Also, is the windshield water heated all the time or only when the heat is on in the car?

Coolant is flowing through the washer bottle all the time. Actually, you could bypass the coolant pipe in the washer bottle completely, that would probably give you the results you want.

Now that takes a great idea and craps it all up! Who would ever think of heated window washer fluid?! Good luck Buell and let us know how it does. You might want to look at the Autospeed site as there is a very good article on how to do what you are attempting.http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_527/article.html

I was first trying to set a manual push button setup with minimal wiring using the existing wiring and electronics. Once I got that where I want it and spraying proves itself in reduced intake air temps then I would get the automatic gizmo, the only problem with the automatic gizmo is the shipping from Australia is a little high. If it works out I'll do a group buy for all the parts as a kit or seperate. Of course having a seperate tank adds a little bit more to the price and complexity. The advantage of using the wiring I plan on using is that the pump wiring and 12V and ground would be all in a convenient area behind the light switch, lots of room there and a nice little door for access and a passageway to the engine compartment. For now I just need to know what wire to splice into.

It's a great idea, especially in areas where temps get low enough to freeze the washer fluid.

Thank God I don't live in a place where it is needed!

If you can think of a good water tank with a built in pump and where it may fit in the C-Coupe let me know. I removed the headlamp washer pump since I can't use it there. I located the nozzles and they tie wrap nicely to the plastic mesh opening for the intercooler.

mbtech208, have you had a chance to look at the wiring diagram for the W203 headlamp harness and see what color wire is the one that triggers the headlamp washer?

Okay, I have the wiring diagram here in front of me. Unfortunately, it's not a direct wire from the headlamp washer switch to the pump. There's a single brown and blue wire that goes from the switch to the front SAM control unit. The control unit sends a 12 volt output on a red and gray wire to the headlamp washer pump for approx. 1 second. There is no relay or fuse, it is all built into the front SAM. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I was aware of the red/gray wire going to the SAM from the pump, just didn't know the color to the switch. Scoured the salvage yards for the right reservoir/pump combo and now I have to figure out how to physically attached it.
