Need help w/ 450 sl engine
I have a 1975 450 sl with an engine tick and a miss. Have replaced left cam, cam towers, rocker arms, lifters, and valve seals. Still ticking. Have replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires. Still missing. Burns a little oil on start up. Mechanic says that it is from leaking rings. Also says that the tick must be from loose valve guides. He will do a valve job and not charge me for his labor since this has been such an ordeal but says the increased compression will blow the rings. Right now the compression is at 160 +/- 10 which is just about perfect. Should I have him do the valve job? Thanks!
